Synopsis:

His Child and Treasure is a two-act dramatic play that intertwines the historical life of beloved hymn writer Lina Sandell with the modern story of a struggling high school theater program.

As Tess Carter returns to her alma mater to direct an original play for a college project, she finds herself leading a small group of students who are dealing with very real pain—serious illness, disappointment, anger, and questions about God. As they rehearse a play about Lina Sandell’s life—her childhood disability, her close relationship with her father, his sudden death, and the faith that shaped her hymns—the lines between story and reality begin to blur.

Through rehearsal room conversations, moments of resistance, and unexpected breakthroughs, the students discover that faith does not require pretending everything is fine. Instead, His Child and Treasure presents a deeply pastoral message: it is possible to question circumstances without questioning God’s character. The play ultimately points audiences toward the enduring hope found in God’s promises and the identity of every believer as His beloved child.

Thoughtful, sincere, and emotionally grounded, this play is ideal for schools, churches, and youth programs seeking a meaningful theatrical experience that combines strong storytelling with theological depth.
